The (belated) Weekend Story

October 12th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in My Life

Well, the weekend came to a screeching halt as it always does. There’s never quite enough time in any given day to get the things that you want to do done. Try saying that ten times as fast.

I do have some good news to share though. I got a recommend from my bishop to go back to BYU-I, so now I can start registering for classes and looking for scholarships online. If anybody knows of a good place to get any, let me know.

All in all though, it was a good weekend. I was having way too much fun hanging out with my friends and going to the homecomming to complain about anything else. Oh, and by the way, Heather was one vote away from homecomming queen and yet, she was the one everybody cheered for. That’s okay, because everybody knows that she’s the real winner. Way to go Heather!!

My Summer Job

October 9th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in My Life

First off, I like to make this sound as cool as possible and show off by telling people that I work for Northwestern Energy as a Summer Electrical/Gas Engineer doing map work for the city of Billings. Cool right? Wrong. It’s actually pretty lame. I’m in charge of tagging every street light in Billings that the company owns with stickers. There’s a total of 3,800 lights, and I have about 500 to left to go. I took this picture and wanted to share it. I call it “My Summer Job”.

Thank Thursday for Friday!

October 8th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in My Life

Time to celebrate! It’s Friday! A day with extended curfews and night-time fun! And some homecomming football on the side. Something I’ve never understood is the rivalries going on between schools. Everything always seems to rest upon the football game. That’s way too ‘macho’ and testosterone pumped for my tastes. To be cliche: “why can’t we all just get along?” Man, am I glad I’m out of high school with all the so called “friends” and “peers”. Savages they are. Either way, I’m going now to cheer on my girlfriend for success in her homecomming queen title!

Good ‘ol Thursday.

October 7th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in My Life

This is the day that envies Friday. The day that everybody hates because it’s in the way of the weekend. However, I applaud you Thursday. So you ask, “what good can be said about Thursday anyway?” I would have to say that Thursday is full of persistance. He carries on through the roughest of the week and gives people hope for better comming days. Therefore, he’s optimistic, persistant, and caring. Just when people don’t feel like they can make it through, they rest on Thursday’s shoulders and he comforts them by saying, “don’t worry, the weekend is near and you’ll be able to rest your doubts and worries.”

Ah, yes. Good ‘ol Thursday.

So, this is what else happened this Thursday: My girl Heather has been nominated top 4 of her class for homecomming queen and tonight she’s having a big party with all her friends. They plan on making toga’s for Toga Friday. It’s spirit week and they can dress up if they’d like. Everyday has something different. Like, Wednesday, for example, was 80’s day and let me tell you… she definatly dressed the part. Tomorrow is the homecomming game so I’ll get to cheer her on! Wish her luck!

This is Derek signing off…

My "tiny" tribute to NOFX

October 6th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in My Life

I stumbled across these NOFX pictures and loved them! It kind of gives you an idea of their strange, whacked out personality that can even been heard in their music. And with thumbnail clicking goodness!

Medio-core

Nofx

Medio-core

It’s not forsaken

The music they’re makin’

Will leave you with a

Feeling of indifference

How was the band?

They were okay (okay, all right)

Not great, but pretty good

They played the songs I knew they would

Some old, some new

The same the formula stays true

We can’t concur

It’s Mediocre

Sing

Sing a song

Make it simple

So all the kids can sing along

Sing along

The list keeps growin’

The melodies been stolen

Remind me of songs sung in the 70’s

You might fool the kids

But you don’t fool me

Have you ever heard of something called

aboriginality

Is it absurd

To compose music no one’s ever heard

Predictability

Like a bossom will comfort them

My one true foe

L.C.D.

Medio-core

It’s underpowered

Their riffs are all deflowered (Medio-core)

Spreading faster

Than British tooth decay (Medio-core)

Are you ready to rock?

How are you all doin tonight?

You condescending people (Medio-core)

Make me wanna laugh and puke at the same time

(Medio-core)

I want to speak

This song sounds like 15

You’ve heard before

Medio-core

Sing

Sing a song

Make it simple

So all the kids can sing along

Sing along
