How To Fix The No Sound Issue in Firefox Flash [Linux Tip]
This is the method that worked for me while using Ubuntu as well as Fedora. It’s not really a method, it’s more of a simple program installation. By no means do I take credit for the solution, but here is the package that will need to be installed:
http://www.paulbetts.org/projects/libflashsupport_1.0~2219-2_i386.deb
I wouldn’t even bother saving it, just open with the default application. It will install it and you’ll be sittin’ pretty.
BTW: This also appears to be true for Fedora 8. I had the same problem with the default installation of the new Pulse Audio controller. So, after installing the “libflashsupport” package, the sound in Firefox flash worked again. Refer to my other Fedora 8 guide on this page:

sudo apt-get install libflashsupport
PERFECT!! I am running UE 2.0, and over the past few days, my sound settings had gone haywire, my guess due to me trying to install ‘Ardour GTK2′ and ‘Jokosher’. I tried everything from reinstalling alsa to messing with the Jack settings, reinstalling PulseAudio…
It’s people like the guy who posted this solution who really make my life easier. Thanks, man.

in flash 10 libflashsupport is not need and people are having sound issues
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I am brand new to linux… Ubuntu in particular (installed it this morning) and I know almost nothing… this flash problem was driving me crazy. I tried every suggestion I could find online (at least the ones that I could actually understand) and nothing worked… until this!! It’s perfect now! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’m just happy I can help!
I had no idea that this post would get so much attention and be so useful when I published it. I’m glad I did now! The original work still belongs to Paul Betts (he posted the solution first).

I thought it would be outdated by now, but apparently, it’s still working miracles.
Thank you! Worked perfectly.
Aahhh, after more than an hour of searching I thought I’d finally found the solution, and now I realize that this is for those who use Linux. I’ve got windows vista, does anyone have a solution/package for this problem for windows vista?
My flash audio is finally working again after I upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04. Thank you so much :)
@Benji:
There are still people using Windoze??? (I was a soft-in-the-head Micro$oft adherent for nearly 20 years, but then I finally attained enlightenment. There is no spoon!)
After updated to Ubuntu 9.04 no sound in Firefox.
I have tried all solutions found in google included this one. No Joy.
I am really trying hard to love Ubuntu and Open source software, but they do no WORK PROPERLY, unless you are a programer and knows how to tailor the System to your machine..
I will re-instal WI NDOWS tomorrow.
Thanks man, solved my problem!
I can’t get this download to work. it says can not be saved try another location. Using Linux Mint (unsure how to get kernel version), firefox 3, Gnome desktop. I’m not sure exactly what Gnome does, but I know I am using that. No flash sound, for myspace or facebook.
If you type “uname -r” in the terminal, you’ll get the linux kernel version.
Does your sound work in other applications? It might be an issue with your hardware drivers if you don’t get sound anywhere.
This did the trick! THANK YOU!!!
Re. Xico’s comment on May 4, 2009… I’ve been using Linux since the mid-90’s, and although I enjoy Linux and use it every day, I would have to agree with his comment. How could Ubuntu overlook such a elemental aspect of every day Web life – Flash Audio? This is what drives people, who are really trying to make the move to Linux, absolutely crazy. Even Linux Mint which is supposed to include all of the multimedia codecs, etc., doesn’t work with Flash audio. Nor does Mandriva for that matter…
Personally, I’m committed to Linux, but if we ever expect more migration from Windows to any Linux distro, it MUST be able to work seamlessly, and easily, in all environments as Windows. Otherwise, it will continue to be nothing more than an OS for hobbyists and geeks, and will never become a mainstream OS.
thank you it works perfect also on jaunty so then this is your prize http://www.8sutun.com/video/?id=387 :)
any support for 64 bit systems?
I tried installing it but i get error :breaks exidting package ‘flashplugin installer’ conflict: libflashsupport. I have sound when i click around ubuntu but not when i on firefox or utube
I followed Joshua’s instructions above, got libflashsupport installed just fine, sound in FF Flash is now working excellent, but every time I watch a flash video, I now have to restart ubuntu in order to get any other type of media file to play (mp3, avi, wmv, etc..). So how do I correct this? It gets kinda annoying when someone points me to a youtube video while I’m listening to music, and after watching the video, I can’t switch back to my MP3 ;-(
CORRECTION:
Sorry, it seems that if I close FireFox I get access to my media files again… Not as bad as having to fully restart ubuntu, but still an annoyance…
