How To Fix The No Sound Issue in Firefox Flash [Linux Tip]

2007 October 20

This is the method that worked for me while using Ubuntu as well as Fedora. It’s not really a method, it’s more of a simple program installation. By no means do I take credit for the solution, but here is the package that will need to be installed:

http://www.paulbetts.org/projects/libflashsupport_1.0~2219-2_i386.deb

I wouldn’t even bother saving it, just open with the default application. It will install it and you’ll be sittin’ pretty.

BTW: This also appears to be true for Fedora 8. I had the same problem with the default installation of the new Pulse Audio controller. So, after installing the “libflashsupport” package, the sound in Firefox flash worked again. Refer to my other Fedora 8 guide on this page:

PERFECT!! I am running UE 2.0, and over the past few days, my sound settings had gone haywire, my guess due to me trying to install ‘Ardour GTK2′ and ‘Jokosher’. I tried everything from reinstalling alsa to messing with the Jack settings, reinstalling PulseAudio…

It’s people like the guy who posted this solution who really make my life easier. Thanks, man.

I’m just happy I can help!

I had no idea that this post would get so much attention and be so useful when I published it. I’m glad I did now! The original work still belongs to Paul Betts (he posted the solution first).

I thought it would be outdated by now, but apparently, it’s still working miracles.

Aahhh, after more than an hour of searching I thought I’d finally found the solution, and now I realize that this is for those who use Linux. I’ve got windows vista, does anyone have a solution/package for this problem for windows vista?

    @Benji:

There are still people using Windoze??? (I was a soft-in-the-head Micro$oft adherent for nearly 20 years, but then I finally attained enlightenment. There is no spoon!)

After updated to Ubuntu 9.04 no sound in Firefox.

I have tried all solutions found in google included this one. No Joy.

I am really trying hard to love Ubuntu and Open source software, but they do no WORK PROPERLY, unless you are a programer and knows how to tailor the System to your machine..

I will re-instal WI NDOWS tomorrow.

I can’t get this download to work. it says can not be saved try another location. Using Linux Mint (unsure how to get kernel version), firefox 3, Gnome desktop. I’m not sure exactly what Gnome does, but I know I am using that. No flash sound, for myspace or facebook.

If you type “uname -r” in the terminal, you’ll get the linux kernel version.

Does your sound work in other applications? It might be an issue with your hardware drivers if you don’t get sound anywhere.
