How To Fix The No Sound Issue in Firefox Flash [Linux Tip]
This is the method that worked for me while using Ubuntu as well as Fedora. It’s not really a method, it’s more of a simple program installation. By no means do I take credit for the solution, but here is the package that will need to be installed:
http://www.paulbetts.org/projects/libflashsupport_1.0~2219-2_i386.deb
I wouldn’t even bother saving it, just open with the default application. It will install it and you’ll be sittin’ pretty.
BTW: This also appears to be true for Fedora 8. I had the same problem with the default installation of the new Pulse Audio controller. So, after installing the “libflashsupport” package, the sound in Firefox flash worked again. Refer to my other Fedora 8 guide on this page:

I’m just glad I could help!
I noticed a high spike in traffic around here and saw that most people are coming from the ubuntu forums. I’d just like to say, welcome to my little piece of the web! See you on the forums!

I have worked on this for days now…
you found the solution to the problem.
Thank you so much!
I spent lot of time trying to find a working solution for this issue (that was really pissing me off btw). But tonight, I found your post in the ubuntu forums and gave it a try. And guess what: sound is now working with flash under firefox / epiphany. Thanks you very much for the tip.
Ah!!! Sucess!!! I switched to pulseaudio and have been pulling my hair out to get flash video sound to work and this did it. Awesome. Thank you soooo much.
Anyone have a solution for amd64? If so, please email me at howard (dot) dave (at) gmail (dot) com Thanks!
Thanks for you, it is working now :)
Thank you. Solved the problem without any hassle :-)
Hello !
I noticed a bug in your lib
First i’ve to say that it solved the problem xD
But, when i’ve a firefox open and a flash video open (playing or not), all sounds are disabled for system and other audio appz (like banshee)
when i close the youtube tab in my firefox, everything come back
thanx again
romain
Unfortunately, those with AMD64 versions of Ubuntu are screwed by the i386 DEB, and the makefile in that tarball doesn’t work. How can I get this to work on an AMD64?
Excellent work; I’d been getting frustrated after I fixed the video, only to have the audio disappear.
… now I only have to get DVDs to play…
How do I install it,
(i am new to linux, using Fedora 8, just got it yesterday)
For me, it was in the repositories.
The command is (as root):
yum install libflashsupport
That’s it!
how do I get to the repositories
maybe I didn’t say it well enough, I have no idea what I am doing in linux
do i just open up a terminal and type that?
Oh! Well, it’s easy to do, so no worries! There are two different ways to go about it:
With the Graphical User Interface:
1.) Goto Applications -> Add/Remove Software.
2.) Type in your password for root.
3.) Click on the “Search” tab and search for “libflashsupport”
4.) Make sure “libflashsupport” has a check mark next to it and click “Apply”.
5.) The package manager will go out, download it, and install it to your computer.
With the Terminal:
1.) Open the terminal by going to Applications -> System Tools -> Terminal
2.) Login as root by typing “su”
3.) Enter your password.
4.) Type “yum install libflashsupport”
5.) The package manager will go out, download it, and install it to your computer.
Well I did that,
it said the libflashsupport was allready installed.
but i still have no sound
Did you restart the computer?
If you did, and it’s still not working, I’m not sure what else to recommend other then starting a new thread on the Fedora Forums at http://forums.fedoraforum.org
Sorry I couldn’t be any more help to you.
Your “simple package installation” it’s works on my Firefox – Ubuntu Gutsy.
Thanks a lot!!!
Hey I justrealized that the one it shows as being installed is 000 something not the 2100 that i downloaded
Worked for me as well on Gutsy.
Thanks!

those who have the issue still try.. this

I love you
Here’s a simple Firefox/Flash sound problem solution using Flash V9..!
http://NetwinnerSites.com
Does this work for Windows XP? I googled my issue and found this site – please help! Thanks!
Michele… No. This guide will not work with Windows XP.
Works great with libflash 9.0 r115 on ubuntu 7.10
I am using RHEL and have the same (no sound) problem while using Firefox2/Flash9 combo. Could you kindly suggest a *.rpm that will fix my issue.
Many Thanks!
Oh thank-you so much for this solution. So I have been having flash problems for ever on Ubuntu so I finally got flash working on Ubuntu 8.04 but with no sound. After search for a month now, saw your solution, gave it a try and I can’t not believe it!!! YOUR SOLUTION WORKED like magic.
Thanks so much for the solution!!!!
-Mike
Now Firefox closes when I try to run Flash videos. Great.
…and uninstalling the program doesn’t fix it this issue. Thanks a lot.
There has been more positive feedback from people using this solution than there has been of negative. I’m not sure what’s going on with Alex, but I’m glad it helped the rest of you!
@Alax… This was a suggested solution that happened to work for me. I didn’t bend your arm or anything. I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you. I hope you get it solved soon.
hey!!!!!! thanks… its working :)
i may be missing something here but when i try to install it i click on it then it says cannot find a programme to run it? what can i use to install it?
@Josh:
It’s because you’re running Windows Vista. This is a fix for Ubuntu Linux.
Thank you guy!
It’s working!
From Russia with love,
Sergey.
Thanks alot, found this page trough google and fixed my sound problem with flash in less than 60 seconds. :-)
This same bug occurs with Firefox on Windows XP and Vista. Anyone know a fix?
Just for the record, this package is now in the Debian package repositories. You’re better off installing from there than downloading this version.
BRILLIANT!
Please help. When i download this i have to pick an application to open it in. WHAT DO I USE?
It would have helped if that was posted. rediculous!
I’m using VISTA
@angry:
If you took one second to stop and observe the actual content of the post and in the comments, you would have realized that this is a fix for Linux Operating Systems, NOT for Windows Operating Systems.
Good luck figuring it out for Vista.
Thanks a lot!
Worked perfectly!!! Thanks!!!!!
Thank you Derek for your Patch – you made my day. *thumbs up*
Thank you very much. Just upgraded to 8.10 Intrepid Ibex and Firefox flash ended up with no sound. This has solved my problem.
I’ve tried multiple different solutions to this problem… but this is the only one that fixed it!
Thanks a lot!
thanks very very very much… this fixed my problem too…
When I try to install this package, I get an error saying that it conflicts with adobe-flashplugin non-free. So I removed it, and installed this package. My question is .. what was wrong with flashplugin non-free ?? Is it something the upgrade screwed up ?
Thanks a lot for this solution !!! .. I’d really like it if you could tell me what it fixed and how though.
Thanks again!
@ just_upgraded:
I really wish I had an answer for you. Maybe somebody out there does. You may want to ask on a forum of your distro (ubuntu forums, fedora forums, suse forums, etc…).
You’re welcome!
