CORRECTION:
Sorry, it seems that if I close FireFox I get access to my media files again... Not as bad as having to fully restart ubuntu, but still an annoyance...

I followed Joshua's instructions above, got libflashsupport installed just fine, sound in FF Flash is now working excellent, but every time I watch a flash video, I now have to restart ubuntu in order to get any other type of media file to play (mp3, avi, wmv, etc..). So how do I correct this? It gets kinda annoying when someone points me to a youtube video while I'm listening to music, and after watching the video, I can't switch back to my MP3 ;-(

Re. Xico's comment on May 4, 2009... I've been using Linux since the mid-90's, and although I enjoy Linux and use it every day, I would have to agree with his comment. How could Ubuntu overlook such a elemental aspect of every day Web life - Flash Audio? This is what drives people, who are really trying to make the move to Linux, absolutely crazy. Even Linux Mint which is supposed to include all of the multimedia codecs, etc., doesn't work with Flash audio. Nor does Mandriva for that matter...

Personally, I'm committed to Linux, but if we ever expect more migration from Windows to any Linux distro, it MUST be able to work seamlessly, and easily, in all environments as Windows. Otherwise, it will continue to be nothing more than an OS for hobbyists and geeks, and will never become a mainstream OS.

If you type "uname -r" in the terminal, you'll get the linux kernel version.

Does your sound work in other applications? It might be an issue with your hardware drivers if you don't get sound anywhere.

I can't get this download to work. it says can not be saved try another location. Using Linux Mint (unsure how to get kernel version), firefox 3, Gnome desktop. I'm not sure exactly what Gnome does, but I know I am using that. No flash sound, for myspace or facebook.
