Snowboarding on the St. Anthony Sand Dunes

April 3rd, 2008 Posted in My Life

Hello Family and Friends!

I have some awesome photos to share with you this round, along with an interesting story. But first, the pictures:

Snowboarding on the Dunes

Now, the story is that my folks came down to visit from March 28 - 30th and my Dad, my brother Devon, and myself had plans to head up to the Grand Targhee Ski Resort and take advantage of some of the new snow they’ve been getting. Well, that and plus the fact that we have never been there before. Unfortunately, we were snowed in! There was no way of getting to the mountain because all of the roads were drifted heavily with snow because of the high winds. We found this out about 10 miles into our trip (7:30 AM) when we were greeted with a gate stretched across the road. We headed back home to see if we could find any other way around through the 511 Idaho Road Conditions website. Not a chance. Every road that we needed was blocked. So, here we are in our snow gear and miserably depressed. We really wanted to do some snowboarding/skiing so we figured, why not go down to the St. Anthony sand dunes and mess around there? So, that’s exactly what we did. It turned out to be quite a bit of fun, even if we completely wore out by noon. It was sure something I wouldn’t mind doing again sometime with some friends.

But next winter when the folks come down, we’re going to rent a snowcat to get to the mountain if we have to!
