The Idea
Welcome to Derek Hildreth's personal homepage where you'll find information and links all related to myself. I wanted to create this page so that I could congregate all of my links and personal information into one central place that is easy to find for friends, family and potential employers. On this website, you'll find my portfolio, links to various destinations, and a contact area. Everything here is pretty self-explanatory.
About Myself
In a nutshell, I'm a Quality Assuance Engineer on the Technical Test Team with RightNow Technologies in Bozeman, MT. I'm also employed as an Embedded Systems Engineer working with Technologic Systems in Fountain Hills, AZ (telecommuting). I'm also a Website Administrator for several companies both in MT and CO. I finished my B.S. degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering at BYU-Idaho in December 2009. I'm married to Heather and we have a beautiful daughter named Qeirstyn. When we can find the time, we love to get outdoors and take in the sights and activities like swimming, rappelling, biking, snowboarding, camping, hiking, and much more.
I have a passion (some may call it an unhealthy obsession) for computers that started back in 1993 when my Dad picked up our first Apple computer. All these years later, I'm incredibly excited to be a part of a career that puts me in the front seat of emerging technology. I've done pretty much anything that has to do with computers. I've had direct experience in web design, on-site technical service, software and hardware consulting services, website hosting, and embedded Linux and embedded systems engineering. I have taken it upon myself to become an entrepreneur of sorts and explore each of these areas with my own freelancing business which supported the community in which I lived. I've also been a Computer Systems Administrator several different organizations in the Rexburg, ID area. I'm always looking forward to where the next opportunity may bring me.
I support and use Linux and FOSS whenever I possibly can. In the spirit of the FOSS mainstream community, I give back as much as I can by contributing artwork, ideas, tutorials, and I help promote the use of the software by example. My passion for Linux and FOSS has driven me to many different and exciting areas including embedded systems, servers, virtualization, professional typesetting, engineering, and more.
In the end, this geeky father is fun loving, optimistic, curious, and enjoys living life to its fullest. I hope you enjoy the website and take a look around. If you find yourself with questions or want to chat with me about opportunities, please let me know. I'll be here. :)
